Chapter 35 Quilton's Migration
Chapter 35 Quilton's Migration
Night falls outside Quilton.
"They moved out ahead of time."
A man in a black robe reached out from the city gate and touched an invisible barrier, beyond which lay the deserted city of Quilton.
He withdrew his hand and placed it on the book in his hand, stroking the winged relief on the book cover.
"Has someone leaked the information?"
Standing next to him was a woman also dressed in black robes, holding a magic wand with an eagle claw at the top holding the magic core, and an elongated eagle on the shaft.
"Not necessarily. The lord of Quilton is quite capable. I suspect he may have known about us beforehand, for example—"
"They're the first to move the entire city out of here; maybe they've discovered our plans."
The woman interrupted the man before he could finish speaking.
"Haha, maybe."
dong dong.
The man who was interrupted was not annoyed. He simply tapped the barrier lightly, and a radiant glow began to appear from the point of impact, causing ripples to spread across the hexagonal barrier.
"However, they weren't our original target. As long as no one gets in my way while I'm analyzing the barrier, all we need to do now is enter the city and find—"
"They moved away but didn't remove the barrier. What a nuisance, tsk."
The woman clicked her tongue, interrupting the incessantly chattering man once again, and then poked the barrier with her wand.
"Besides, since we can deal with them without using a demonic horde to attack the city, why should we go through all that trouble to break the dragon's seal?"
The man shook his head helplessly.
"This is just a process. They won't leave unless we trigger a demonic tide."
"Yes, yes, yes~ You're spouting those high-sounding principles again, it's so annoying."
"Haha, you're still as unique as ever."
"You're way more individualistic than me, four-eyed guy."
The man shook his head and adjusted his glasses under his hood with his index finger.
"As far as personality is concerned, I don't think glasses are a type of personality. Moreover, personality should be considered from many aspects, not just appearance and character, but also behavior—"
*Thud*—The woman tapped him with her wand, which the man caught with nonchalant ease.
"Don't give me that crap, I don't want to hear it."
"OK."
The man smiled and wisely shut his mouth.
"I'll go check on the five people who went to find the demon dragon. Get the barrier set up quickly."
"That suits me perfectly."
The woman pulled hard, retracting her eagle claw wand, then turned to leave.
"Oh, right, be careful of those five people."
"ha?"
boom!
An eagle's head—the base of the wand—stung against the barrier, creating violent ripples, and the woman's voice was filled with intense anger.
But the man simply looked up and saw the ripples spreading from the bottom to the cave ceiling.
"You'll see when you meet them... Also, they're in the Wild Dog Forest right now, go look for them there."
"cut."
………………
Meanwhile, inside a passage in the underground city.
"rest."
"Yes."
Knight Commander Cavill raised his hand to signal the other knights behind him, who nodded and shouted back.
"rest--!"
More than 500 people from the entire city of Quilton lined up in the passageway with their luggage. From the front to the back of the line, there were knights as guards. The knights called out to the back one after another until the order reached the back of the line.
Upon hearing the order, the people of Quilton began to take out their camp equipment from their belongings and set up camp on the spot.
Once everyone was settled, Lord Vorian arrived at the front of the group.
"My lord."
"Um."
Vorian nodded slightly, but his gaze was fixed on one end of the passage. The passage was winding and the end was nowhere in sight, only the rock wall at the corner could be seen.
How far are we from our destination?
"We'll arrive after passing through the next large cave."
This was a smooth migration.
Because of the well-planned route, they did not pass through any particularly dangerous caves along the way, and of the 500 people in the city, at least 300 were effective combatants.
There were almost no dangers encountered, and no casualties.
"Cavill, don't you think our trip is too easy?"
Upon hearing Volian's words, Cavill paused for a moment before replying.
"It's certainly easy, but our team has five hundred people, and the monsters don't dare to come close."
The massive migration was enough to scare away most intelligent monsters.
However, Vorian shook his head slightly, his gaze still fixed on the other end of the passage.
Stroking the dragon scale ring on his hand, Vorian seemed a little more at ease.
Then, he uttered a name that Cavill recognized.
"Lorna is dead."
"Lorna...is dead?"
Upon hearing Vorian's unexpected words, Cavill paused for a moment and checked with his lord again.
"That red devil... Lorna is dead?"
"Um."
Cavill nodded slightly.
"But what does Lorna's death have to do with us?"
"no."
Vorian nodded, then suddenly reached for his sword at his waist with his other hand.
"However, I didn't expect her to die so quickly. She should have had at least two more months... Honestly, she couldn't even rest in peace after she's dead."
"What do you mean...?"
Cavill didn't understand what his lord was trying to say; as always, he spoke in a way that was hard to understand.
For example, he was suddenly told, as the Knight Commander, that the demonic tide was coming, the Sky Cult was coming, and the entire city had to be relocated.
But Cavill knew perfectly well that he was always right.
Volian did not answer, but suddenly reached for his sword at his waist with his other hand.
Cavill noticed Lord Vorian's unusual behavior and followed his gaze to the corner of the passage.
In the silence, he heard other voices—
Click, click, click... The sound of armored figures moving came from around the corner.
"Knights! Be on alert!"
Cavill quickly issued instructions: anything that could alert Lord Vorian should not be taken lightly.
Upon hearing Cavill's command, the nearby knights quickly assembled.
Click, click, click... The sound grew closer and closer.
Everyone was on high alert, staring at the corner of the passage.
Finally, the sound stopped, and a figure appeared around the corner.
"Who is it! Come out and talk to me!"
Cavill shouted at the man hiding around the corner, and the only response he got was to start walking again.
Click...
"It's...me..."
A strange figure lingered in the passageway. A woman in white armor appeared from around the corner, her limbs twisted grotesquely, one leg dragging on the ground.
"Lorna?! What... happened to you?!"
That was none other than Rorna, the one wearing white armor.
Cavill looked stunned, while only Varian frowned.
"Pfft~ Hahahaha, wrong guess! It's not Rolna! It's me—"
boom!
Red and black pus and blood burst from the white armor, emitting a foul stench, and beneath the armor was another figure, a figure unlike any other.
"Devil, Sagrizar."
Vorian spoke slowly.
"You got it right!"
The devil Sagrizar revealed a satisfied smile.
"According to the contract, the reward for Varian Quilton is death! As a reward! Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha—"
A wild, wicked laugh echoed in the ears of everyone in the former city of Quilton.
