Chapter 2 Mental Manipulation
Chapter 2 Mental Manipulation
The hallway, by the fireplace.
The mentor sat on the sofa, and Shar stood in front of him to give a report.
"The Stigmata Ceremony is underway, and in addition to Kane, new candidates have emerged."
"Very well, it's up to you now."
The mentor nodded and smiled, his expression kind.
"Yes, to ensure the safety of the ceremony, I have requested the deployment of three new assassins."
Shar added.
At this time.
A black-robed cultist approached quietly and whispered a few words in her ear.
Shar frowned slightly and turned to her mentor:
"Master, Kane requests an audience with you."
A hint of surprise flashed across the mentor's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Let him come over."
"Yes."
Soon, Kane was led to the fireplace.
He bowed respectfully.
"What's wrong?"
The tutor spoke in a gentle tone.
Kane bowed his head and replied:
My wound is a little itchy.
Shar went over to examine the wound on his arm.
"The scabs fell off very quickly, which is probably due to the healing effect of the medication."
The mentor smiled:
"It seems that Shawn's tonics have improved."
He looked at Kane:
"Don't worry, a quick recovery is a good thing."
Kane lowered his head, seemingly somewhat relieved.
Just now in the room, he tried using "immortality" for the first time to accelerate the healing of his wounds.
The purpose of proactively reporting this at this time was to allow the two individuals to reach a "reasonable" conclusion about the matter on their own.
He bowed again, his tone earnest:
"Mentor, I request to receive more training."
Shar frowned, about to speak.
The mentor raised his hand to stop her.
Why?
He remained mild-mannered.
Kane's voice was deep:
"As you have taught me, my body is about to become the vessel for the Demon Lord's descent."
"The thought that such a frail body has to bear the weight of an adult fills me with unbearable pain... I cannot endure it."
His eyes gradually filled with fervor:
"I was so lazy in the past."
"Even if I only have a little time left, I will become stronger."
Shar paused, taken aback.
The mentor gazed at him, the gentleness in his eyes gradually turning into appreciation.
Succeeded?
Kane's heart stirred slightly, but at that moment he met his mentor's gaze.
In that instant, he felt as if he had fallen into a deep pool.
My mind was in a daze, and I could only see that kind face blurring in my vision.
"Kane, is this really your own idea?"
The tutor's voice was gentle, yet it felt like a fine needle piercing into my mind.
Just as Kane was about to blurt out the truth.
The panel information suddenly appeared before my eyes:
[Hint: The second-tier sorcerer Stad (lv21) has cast a mental spell on you.]
He suddenly woke up, bit his tongue hard, and felt a sharp pain in his mouth.
At the same time, he lowered his head and answered in a low voice:
"Yes...that's all my honest opinion."
You resisted one instance of mental manipulation; Willpower +1
The tutor gently patted his shoulder and then turned to give Shar a few instructions.
Shar looked at Kane, frowned, and replied:
"Understood, follow me."
Kane suppressed his excitement, respectfully bowed to his mentor to say goodbye, and then followed Shar.
In the corridor, several black-robed cultists bowed their heads, but Shar didn't even glance at them.
Their status is obvious at a glance.
Kane silently observed his surroundings.
Along the way, we passed a pharmacy, a library, and several scattered bedrooms.
After walking a long way, we finally arrived at a somewhat open space.
It looks like a training ground.
Various weapons were displayed on the central wooden table.
Shar stopped and spoke a few words to a fellow believer beside her.
Soon, a thin, hunched old man in a black robe walked over.
His face was thin and his eyes held a mixture of slyness and cunning.
"To what extent?"
He glanced at Kane and then looked to Shar for confirmation.
"Don't break it, the rest is up to you."
After saying that, Shar turned and left without looking at Kane again.
Kane didn't care.
No matter how beautiful this woman is, she is a follower of the devil.
The old man gave him a sinister smile:
Go get a dagger.
Kane picked up a short dagger from the wooden table, gripped it tightly, and stared at the old man.
He mimicked the arrogance of a fanatic, grinning broadly:
"Old man, you think you can train me? Watch out."
"You have good eyesight."
The old man chuckled softly.
"I don't know why you're here for training, but I won't hold back. Good luck."
He paused, his tone suddenly turning cold:
"Now, use all your skills to attack."
Before he could finish speaking...
Kane charged forward, his dagger aimed straight for the opponent's throat!
But with each thrust, the blade tip was always deftly evaded in the last few inches.
Just as his steps faltered slightly, the old man smiled.
A blurry image flashed before my eyes.
Before Kane could even see clearly, the cold blade was already pressed against his throat.
It stopped abruptly at the last inch.
He had just breathed a sigh of relief.
A sudden, sharp pain shot through my abdomen!
He was kicked away and crashed heavily to the ground.
The old man toyed with the dagger and asked with a smile:
"Want to come again?"
Kane slowly rose to his feet, a deliberate madness burning in his eyes:
"Come."
The old man's smile widened even more.
The next two hours became a one-sided ordeal of being tortured.
But Kane did not let his guard down.
He made every effort to remember his opponent's every step, the timing and angle of each move.
As the training ended, a prompt appeared before his eyes:
[The first-tier Silent Assassin, Raun (lv12), has taught you "Dagger Mastery," progress 12%]
[You have successfully completed a high-intensity training session. Experience +30]
Kane stood upright, but remained calm.
During training, he has been using his "immortality" ability to slowly repair his muscles and hidden injuries.
Especially those areas that feel sore, swollen, and stinging.
The old man looked him over, somewhat puzzled, yet also admiring.
"Overdrawing your life force like this will only backfire."
"Go to Sean and get a bottle of tonic."
After saying that, he turned and left.
Kane narrowed his eyes and said nothing more.
This instructor may seem gentle, but if I were to actually try to escape, he would probably break my hands and feet immediately.
"We must find his weaknesses and discover an opportunity to deal with him."
He didn't linger and went straight to the pharmacy.
Inside the room, the man with the gold-rimmed glasses, Sean, was fiddling with bottles and jars.
Upon seeing the bruises and welts on Kane's body, he adjusted his glasses:
"What happened?"
Kane grinned ecstatically.
"In order to offer a better body to the Demon Lord, I underwent training."
"I see."
Sean turned his face in the candlelight, the light and shadow dancing on his black robe.
He handed over a bottle of familiar green medicine:
"Drink it."
Kane took it and drank it all in one gulp.
[Warning: You have consumed Sean's (inferior) tonic]
[Health points begin to slowly recover, lasting 5 minutes]
Kane nodded in approval as he watched the health points on the panel gradually recover.
Repairing your body using the "Undying Trait" will consume experience points.
It would be even better if external aids could be used to restore the body.
Just as he was about to leave, Shawn suddenly called out to him:
"etc."
He took out a vial of bluish-green medicine, a subtle light gleaming in his eyes:
"Interested in trying my new formula? It might make your body... stronger."
Kane stared into his eyes and said, word by word:
"My body belongs only to the Demon Lord. Are you sure this won't have any consequences?"
"Don't worry, the ceremony is still a long way off."
Shawn smiled.
"This medicine has been tested on mice, and there were no problems."
"Drink it, and you will become stronger."
He withheld some crucial information.
After all, it's not easy to find people to participate in drug trials.
Kane immediately understood his intention and cursed inwardly, "What a shoddy product!"
In the settings he was aware of.
Failed potions may not only reduce health but also temporarily lower attributes.
However, in order to maintain the character's persona, and with the "immortality" as a safety net, he was given a chance to survive.
He took the medicine with a fanatical and trusting expression, tilted his head back, and drank it down.
[Notification: You have consumed Sean's "Dark Water" (inferior quality)]
[All attributes -10%, gain "Mild Poisoning" and "Fatigue" status effects, lasting 24 hours]
[Experience gain efficiency increased by 80%, lasting 24 hours]
Just as Kane was frowning inwardly, the second notification made his gaze sharpen.
Sean was carefully observing his reaction.
Kane grinned, revealing his white teeth, his eyes gleaming with excitement:
"I'll be taking this medicine every day from now on!"
For the average person, "fatigue" and "mild poisoning" are enough to offset any gains in experience.
But for him, "immortality" could eliminate these negative states.
This potion, which would be useless to others, was a miracle drug tailor-made for him.
"Perhaps... I should find an opportunity to learn its recipe."
He thought to himself silently, but remained outwardly calm.
It's too early to say that now.
He made up an excuse to leave the pharmacy and planned to go to the library.
Watching him leave, Sean adjusted his glasses, his face full of confusion:
"No problem? Could it be that they have a special constitution that reacts to this medicine?"
"That little white mouse had diarrhea all day long and was almost exhausted..."
He thought for a moment, then took out another vial of "Dark Drink" and carefully took a sip.
A moment later.
Suddenly, Sean clutched his stomach, his face turned pale, and he rushed to the toilet.
The sound of rushing water could be faintly heard.
Meanwhile, Kane had already entered the quiet library.
In the dim candlelight, he slowly surveyed the rows of heavy, silent bookshelves...
After flipping through book after book, his gaze stopped.
"Found it."
Kane muttered to himself, his gaze falling on the middle shelf of the bookshelf.
There lay quietly a book called "The Book of Mysteries".
