Chapter 16 Instigation
Chapter 16 Instigation
Klein felt a chill run down his spine upon hearing Evan's words.
Evan had only told him that the follower came from an organization that believed in an evil god, without specifying that the organization was the Aurora Society.
Klein knew it was the Aurora Society because the script showing the mastermind to "The Fool" in the gray fog contained the following:
After reviewing the contents of the notes and copying down the corresponding potion recipes, Heinz Vancent, a member of the Aurora Society, worried that the cryptic practitioners skilled in divination would track him down. After careful consideration, he decided not to take the risk and sold the notes to someone else.
…………
Through introductions from others, Haynes met Welch McGovern, a history student at the University of Tingen, and sold him the Antigonus Family Notes as an ordinary ancient book.
So when Evan said that the people following him came from the evil god gang that sold Welch the Fourth Epoch Notebook, Klein immediately knew it was the Aurora Society.
The problem is that the Night Watchers didn't find out about this at all, so Klein shouldn't have known about it, and Evan, who did know about it, had no reason to mention it to anyone else.
In other words, there are currently only three people who know that the notebook was leaked from the Aurora Society: the mastermind behind everything, Evan who saw through the mastermind's script, and Mr. Fool who received the "script" from Evan.
Klein had only one thought in his mind: his identity as the "Fool" was about to be exposed!
Klein's expression shifted, he hesitated, unsure of what to do, when he heard Evan laugh triumphantly and say:
"Just as I expected, Klein, you survived the ordeal a few days ago thanks to Mr. 'The Fool's' protection. You should now be considered Mr. 'The Fool's' representative in the mortal world, right?"
Klein's mind went blank.
"Didn't I expose myself? He didn't connect me with the Fool himself, but only assumed that I became a follower of the Fool during the life-or-death crisis a few days ago?"
Seeing that Klein remained silent, Evan twitched his lips and said with dissatisfaction:
"I'm not an outsider. I'm now able to attend the Divine Meeting. The person who sold the ancient book to Welch was a member of the Aurora Society. It was information I provided to Mr. Fool. Otherwise, how could you know such important information?"
"If it wasn't Mr. Fool who told you, who else could it be? Don't pretend in front of me, we're all on the same side now, why are you still pretending?"
Klein adjusted his mindset, realizing his identity as the Fool hadn't been exposed, and felt much more at ease. At the same time, his sharp intellect prevailed. Recalling Evan's earlier words, he angrily blurted out:
"You were just bluffing me?! You did it on purpose?!"
Evan, who was being glared at by Klein with wide eyes, instead of feeling ashamed, smiled and asked in return:
"How was it? Did I act convincingly?"
Klein's chest heaved, and he pointed at Evan, unable to utter a word for a long time.
Evan didn't say anything or apologize, and walked ahead triumphantly, while Klein could only follow.
After a while, Klein said coldly:
"So, you've long suspected I've become a follower of the Fool, and you're only coming now to verify it?"
"That's right, you, me, Welch, and Naya can all say that the accident happened five days ago because of that Antigonus family notebook."
The difference is that they both died, while we two survived.
I saw the ancient name of Mr. Fool in that notebook, so I thought it was Mr. Fool's protection. Of course, Mr. Fool has denied that. So how did you survive?
It can't really be just good luck, right? So I guess you might have become a follower of Mr. Fool and are under his protection.
Ultimately, the source of the notebook's power lies with Mr. "The Fool."
Hearing what was said, Klein understood it to some extent, and at the same time, he admired Evan's delicate and unpredictable mind. He could often deduce a lot of big things behind a small thing, and he could even plant a nail to test the waters unintentionally.
But what did his last sentence mean? What did it mean that "the source of the notebook's power comes from Mr. Fool"? Mr. Fool had no idea he was so amazing!
Seeing the bewildered Klein, Evan could only explain further:
"That notebook came from the Antigonus family, a great noble family in the Quaternary period."
The Antigonus family possesses the potion recipes for the 'Diviner' pathway.
I've consulted many historical documents about the Antigonus family, and they mention that their ancestor was referred to as half a "fool," which I don't believe is a coincidence.
Klein was awakened as if by a loud bell. He thought about the path of the 'diviner' he had chosen, the diary of the transmigrator predecessor Roselle who had prompted him to choose the 'diviner' path, and his transmigration and resurrection. Suddenly, he felt as if he were bound by a web woven by fate. He was like a moth caught in a spider's web, and the more he struggled, the less he could break free.
But Klein is Klein after all. He quickly broke free from this pointless emotion and instead strengthened his resolve to go home.
At the same time, he realized that he had been ambushed by Evan today and was completely at Evan's mercy, so he asked directly:
"You went to all this trouble, planting nails and making up stories, just to test whether I've become a follower of Mr. Fool? What good does that do you?"
"Of course there are benefits. You should also know from Mr. Fool that I am also a person with secrets, which makes it difficult for me to trust others in the mysterious world, so as not to expose my secrets."
Sometimes I can't even tell everything to my closest people, you should understand that.
As Emperor Roselle once said, "A fence needs three stakes, and a hero needs three helpers." In the mysterious world, it's inconvenient to do anything without friends.
Like the person stalking me from behind, I really wouldn't have been able to handle this without your help.
Evan then brought the matter back to the fact that he was being followed.
"I can't tell which of your statements are true and which are false now. How do I know that the person following you isn't another official extraordinary individual?"
"Besides, why don't you ask someone else for help? Why do you insist on asking me? You attend so many occult gatherings; you should be able to find some people who can help you."
Klein was quite frightened by Evan today, and since he had never killed anyone before, he didn't want to help him with this favor.
"The main reason I'm contacting you is because you're trustworthy. With Mr. Fool's testimony, I'm sure I won't cheat you."
Moreover, since you are the night watchman, killing the tracker will lessen Aurora's suspicion of me. In addition, it must be you who kills him, because there are too many ways in this world to verify who the murderer is.
Finally, you are the best person to handle this kind of thing, and you can use this opportunity to connect it to the "Ryle Bieber" incident.
You said you had a psychic ability and discovered that he and others were selling notes to Welch.
Um, let's not reveal Heinz Vancent yet, let's buy some time for me to get the potion.
At the same time, it could be said that he discovered the extraordinary power of the notebook and tracked it to the home of "Riell Bieber," which would allow you Night Watchers to continue the clues.
Furthermore, his coming to ambush you at your old home at this time makes sense, so it's most appropriate for you to handle the whole matter.
Klein was startled awake by Evan's words. He looked around and realized that Evan had led him in a big circle, back to the vicinity of his original home.
"If Evan were to commit crimes, he would definitely be a master criminal. Originally, someone was following him, but he managed to arrange for them to follow me instead."
He's right. If I kill this stalker, not only will I be able to reconnect the relevant clues, but after finding Heinz Vancent, I'll also have a reason to report him directly to the captain. No matter how you look at it, it would greatly help thwart the mastermind's plans. It's really hard to refuse, isn't it?
Seeing that Klein remained silent, Evan thought for a moment and continued:
"I know you haven't killed anyone, and neither have I, but we both have to go through this. When we embark on the extraordinary path, we will have to face these things sooner or later, not to mention that we have already joined the secret organization, and you have become a believer in the secret gods."
"I can take action, but there's a problem. I only became an Extraordinary this morning, and I've only learned 'Spiritual Awareness' and haven't learned Spiritual Communication yet. Also, the potion I took doesn't enhance my combat abilities. Can the two of us handle the trackers?"
Evan was delighted to hear that Klein had agreed to help him with this favor. As for the questions Klein raised, Evan had already thought of them for him.
"Have you forgotten that I've been attending occult gatherings for a long time and learned all sorts of weird occult knowledge?"
When I, Evan Horn, learned in the morning that my friend had become an Extraordinary and joined the Night Watch squad, I couldn't wait to come and see him that afternoon.
They happened to run into someone following him, so they seized the opportunity to warn him, and in the end, they accidentally killed the follower. What an exciting team fight! What do you think of this story?
As for how to take him out, that's my job. You just need to grab the gun and give him the final shot.
Klein looked at Evan, who was speaking in an exaggerated tone and making faces in front of him, and realized for the first time that the young master in his mind had this side to him.
"Alright, since you already have a complete plan, just tell me what to do and I'll do it."
"Okay, now you go out here and head home. When he sees that you're the only one leaving, he'll definitely come in here to look for me. You don't need to worry about the rest. Just run over and give him a finishing shot when you hear any fighting."
Klein nodded, offered no further comment, and turned to leave the alley.
Not long after Klein left, the "hunter" who had been following Evan for a whole day arrived as expected, but he cautiously hid at the entrance and exit of the alley and did not step into the alley.
What he didn't know was that Evan, hiding in the shadows, had seen everything he did.
