Chapter 21 The Evil God Card Thief
Chapter 21 The Evil God Card Thief
Lin Qi waved his hand and walked into the woods by the roadside.
As its name suggests, the Misty Forest is shrouded in mist all year round. Although it was a sunny day outside and the team was traveling along the edge of the forest, Lynch had to walk a few dozen meters before the visibility became quite low.
The evil god was unusually cautious.
They moved slowly, making no sound, and in a place devoid of any living creature, only ancient trees, they walked out with the feeling of a burglar breaking in.
"Every time I pass a tree, I have to peek out and observe it carefully."
"It's not easy for an evil god to be reborn; we can't afford to lose our lives again."
"Retaining ten points of divinity allows for ten body regenerations. We'll deal with the numerical values when it really matters."
That's right, Lord Evil God, still leave some.
This is the reasonable approach.
Always have your trump card.
It must be said that there really isn't anything special at the edge of this misty forest.
Lynch ventured about half a mile deeper, but the Whisper of Forgotten Things offered no further clues.
With the route etched in his mind, he easily retraced his steps and rejoined the three members of his team.
Old archer Cole glanced at Lynch's boots.
It was covered in mud and bits of vegetation.
"We made it out without getting lost, that's good."
Without saying anything else, the old archer stood up, patted his backside, and signaled for everyone to set off.
They continued on their way in silence.
The Goblin Grey Substitute Team finally arrived near Blackrock Canyon.
"Let's not talk about Ella and Neil. Lynch, besides monsters, there are also a lot of mercenaries on missions around Blackrock Canyon. Try to avoid them if you can. Some of these professionals have terrible tempers."
Lynch nodded.
"Besides, we're taking on gray-area missions, so we don't have guild credentials and can't prove who owns the target. Sometimes there will be people stealing the monsters, so we'll just have to play it by ear."
"However, the probability is very low."
"Blackrock Canyon has a complex terrain. As a thief, mark your path carefully."
Lynch silently made a note of it.
He looked up and saw many red rocks standing in the mist, their height and depth unclear. The wind grew stronger, but he could not see any trace of the sky.
Repressed.
Even Ella gripped her staff tightly and stopped speaking.
......
After the second goblin camp was cleared out.
Cole sat amidst a chaotic pile of goblin debris, clutching the yellowed mission sheet in his hand, his brow furrowed deeply.
The two goblin lairs we just destroyed were small, open-air gathering places with few goblins, mostly old, weak, sick, or disabled. With Ella's fireball spell, they were wiped out without much effort.
Lynch and Neil did not participate in the battle; their only duties were cleaning up the battlefield, collecting the spoils, and helping Old Cole collect the arrows after the fight.
The evil god is very dutiful.
Even when a goblin rushes right in front of you, you just pretend to nimbly dodge to the side. In reality, it's the whispered forgetfulness that disorients the goblin, and then you call for Ella to release the magic orb.
"Uncle, what's wrong?"
"Ella asked in a low voice."
"This third camp," Old Cole pointed to the paper and simple map in his hand, "is located a bit too deep inland, and the risks are considerable."
"And according to intelligence, there are goblin throwers there."
"The only effective fighting force here is you and me."
The old archer glanced at Lynch and Neil, and continued, "If we're not careful, someone might get hurt."
"Then why don't we just take out those throwers one by one?"
Ella made a gesture of slowly advancing.
"No, the goblin throwers are all at high places. If even one of them makes a sound, it will attract many more. We can't clear them all out."
"Well, I don't know what to do either."
Ella frowned, looking troubled.
"Hey, Lynch, do you know how to set traps?"
The old archer thought for a moment and then called out to Lin Qi.
"Yes, I spent a day learning from Mr. Fold in town."
"Fold?"
Old Cole raised an eyebrow.
"That old miser, you have the money to learn skills from him? Then why are you doing those shady quests?"
"Besides, even though that old man is powerful, what can you possibly learn from him in a day?"
The old archer frowned and waved his hand.
"Never mind, let's go investigate first."
soon.
The team then reached a high point near the target location.
"there."
The old archer squinted and pointed in a certain direction.
The group looked in the direction he pointed and saw several dark cave entrances on the side of the canyon wall, hidden by dense bushes, with only most of their outlines visible.
There were many extinguished fires scattered around the cave entrance, as well as a lot of broken animal hides and other debris. The stench in the air was several times stronger than that of the previous two nests.
That smells like goblin dung.
Unlike the other three who tried to hold their breath, Lin Qi felt nothing.
Ha ha.
That's it.
The scent that the evil god had smelled was ten times stronger than this, no, a hundred times stronger!
"There should be quite a few goblins."
Old Cole's expression was somewhat solemn.
"Besides, the fog is too thick here, so we can't see where the goblin throwers are."
"trouble."
After pondering for a while, he turned his attention to Lin Qi.
"Lin Qi, why don't you go closer and investigate? If you smear some goblin droppings on yourself, you won't be easily detected. These beasts have a very keen nose."
Lynch nodded.
His figure soon appeared below.
Be cautious, proceed slowly, and make sure your eyes don't miss any blind spots.
"Not bad, looks like a thief," Old Cole nodded approvingly, but as Lynch drew closer, his tone suddenly became urgent, "This kid, he didn't wipe off the excrement, damn it, he'll be discovered soon!"
"Uncle, should we make a move?"
Ella is kind-hearted, but also a little anxious.
A flicker of struggle crossed the old archer's eyes, and he remained silent for a moment.
"Let's wait and see. It's good for a newcomer to learn a lesson. We'll talk about it when he's in danger."
"By the God of Light."
Even the timid Neil prayed in a very soft voice.
A moment later.
"Wait a minute, how did this kid get in there?!"
The old archer stared in disbelief as Lynch's figure disappeared into the dark goblin cave.
......
As soon as he stepped into the cave, a stench much thicker than outside rushed into Lin Qi's nostrils.
"It tastes so familiar."
"It's only been a few days, and I'm already starting to miss it."
Lord Evil God subconsciously took a deep breath, but then realized what he was doing and immediately covered his nose.
"Damn it, I'm never going underground again!"
The earthy stench mixed with the sour, rotten smell of goblin dung, along with their primitive and appalling food preparation methods, would make anyone who hasn't smelled it feel suffocated.
It's so easy to vomit on the spot.
But our evil god didn't stop for a second.
The noise inside the cave was a little louder than he had expected.
Hisses, gnawing sounds, and the shrieks of pesky green-skinned cubs buzzed from the depths of the cave.
The cave was dimly lit, and with the wisps of mist drifting in from the entrance, it was difficult to even see the gravel path beneath one's feet.
Lin Qi kept his body extremely low, his footsteps barely making a sound on the gravel. He moved slowly inward along the rock wall, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily, each step taken with extreme caution.
They had only taken a few steps when footsteps came from ahead.
He immediately stopped what he was doing, held his breath, and huddled into a crevice in the rock wall, pressing himself tightly against it, his eyes fixed on the source of the sound.
A goblin strolled over slowly.
